My heart goes out to all the family's that lost a child to this diorder. My daughter Izabella was diagnosed with MCADD a few a days after leaving the hospital. I am so thankful the NJ does do the screening. Now after viewing this site, I feel this is very important screening that needs to be done on every baby.

We almost lost our daughter Madison 2 times when she was very young who will be 8 on August 29,2009.This is something that we will never forget and have to continue to monitor.Especially if she ever gets any viruses or colds to ensure that her blood sugar doesn't drop. She has been hospitalized too many times to count but fortunately with the IV'S of glucose she lived to see another day.I just hope that screening becomes more of a priority for this disorder before more innocent children lose their life.

Hi, it's been 9months since we were told our youngest daughter had MCADD (she was 13days when we got the call). She's doing really well and we've had 3 hospital trips so far BUT it was just a precautionary measure when she had 2 bad colds and the other time she vomitted up her food and wasn't in the mood to eat anymore. We've got the Polycal incase her blood sugar is low (any its not that often) and the hospital staff are great. Hope the rest of you are doing ok and god bless you all. By knowing about what my daughter has we can follow protocol and enjoy all the fun days (they hugely outweigh the occasional trip to the hospital)

I just left my peditricians office who instructed me to look up MCAD online as I am medically minded and he knew I would research this. I have five children 3 girls and 2 boys. Unfortunately all three of my girls are showing signs of some type of metabolic issues that every single year has landed my oldest daughter (9yrs) in the hospital due to severe dehydration. Once she starts vomiting she just can't stop and she goes downhill fast. It has been a regular part of our life since she was 2 yrs. old to have to go in for fluids. My second daughter is now 3 1/2 and she started the same thing last year when she was 2 yrs old. And we just left the hospital Wednesday this week with my third daughter who just turn 2 yrs. old March 1st with the exact same issue. It always seems like a virus starts the vomiting but then it is usually game over very quickly. We have a protocol now with our MD that as soon as they vomit we start Zofran ( a medicine to stop the vomiting) it has been successful maybe 80% of the time without it we would have landed in the hospital more time than I could count. He has wondered for a while if they have partial MCAD is what he told me today.

It is nice to see this website dedicated to making people aware of MCADD. Certainly diagnosis and knowledge are the keys to this condition. My daughter is 15 days old today and she was just diagnosed with MCADD from newborn screening. We are now well informed about this and we know she will be fine. Thankfully this is a standard test done in our Province, but unfortunately it is not done everywhere.

Angel Tears is the best poem I have ever seen. It reminds me of my younger cousin who died as a child. I really hope she doesn't feel the same way as the Angel in this poem. We all miss her terribly but I hope she knows that we are trying to live the life she wants us to live, not a helpless wreck. She will always be in our hearts, and untill we meet again, I will think about her always.

Thank you for fighting so hard for the MCADD children. My baby girl was diagnosed a week after she was born due to the new born screenings required in MO. We would have never known if you and parents like you did not fight so hard to get this done. Ariyah is strong beautiful and vibrant. No one can tell she has MCADD, unless I tell them or they are part of her care.
