Hi, I am a 20 year old female diagnosed with MCADD. I was not diagnosed until I was 4 years old. I have led a fairly normal life and wanted to let everyone out there who has children with MCADD know that they too can lead a very normal life. I am slower than my friends in the way excercise as I get short of breath. I am also curently pregnant and am uncertain if my child will have MCADD or not. Either way I am ready for it. If there is anyone out there who has any questions no matter what they are I would love to answer them for you. It might be easier to talk to someone who has expeirienced this first hand. Hope to hear from everyone.

My grandson was diagnosed at birth in Oregon. I thank God and some intelligent people who made the screening possible. His parents can now take care of him and teach him to take care of himself with the help of educated physicians and hospital staff.
Thanks for educating others.

Both our children have MCADD, our eldest was 2 when he went into a coma, and was saved when diagnoised MCADD. When his brother was born a few months later, at the birth blood was taken for screening and with a few hours of him being born, we knew he also had MCADD. They are now 5 and 3. Here in Holland they are introducing testing at birth. The word is spreading.

hi all,
I lost my son suddenly when he was 41 hours old to MCADD, it was devastating for me and is, still to this day. Every time I read all your stories, I find that I am not alone in my grief and that there is someone out there that understands what I am going through. I miss my first born dearly, and wish he was here so I could watch him grow. I am grateful as are all parents, to have met him and loved him like I did. I'll never stop. Thank you all for telling your stories. I do not yet have the strength to share mine, one day I hope I do. Thank you all!!!

Hi. I don't have any children of my own as of yet. But, my best friend has 2 children, who I am very close to, who both have mcadd. I have been involved in both of these children's lives since they where born and have seen first hand the hardships of children with mcadd and the importance of early detiction. Her children are now 5 and 2. Luckily, her children where diagnoised early and my heart goes out to all the families who have had to lose children to mcadd. I myself had never heard of it until Dylan was born. Many people who I talk to about it have not heard of it either. I think the website is great and hopefully will help others out in the future. I know I don't have children, but, as I said above, I am very close to the children and I know how hard it has been. I just wanted to send my best wishes to everyone out there and hope more early detection can be found. And my best wishes!
Thanks,
Brandy

Beth sent me the link to your website. (The nice lady that signed under me) It is beautiful. I am so sorry for the loss of your Angel Alexis. I too lost my daughter like Beth. She had Down syndrome a heart defect, and trachea stenosis. She earned her angel wings a week and a half after heart surgery from trachea stenosis. The heavens Child poem is beautiful and I try to think like that all the time and Kylee would not want me crying all the time. God bless and our angels are watching over us. Rest in peace sweet angels!

I am so very sorry about your loss of Alexis.
Although he did not have MCAD, my husband and I just lost our precious son Reese, he was 2 wks old and received his angel wings while coming off the bypass machine, trying to recover from open heart surgery. Reese had Down Syndrome and 3 heart defects :(
Please know I feel your pain and I hope time has made things some what easier.
The poem HEAVEN's CHILD has helped me more then you will ever know....
THANK YOU and God bless,
*HUGZ*

I truly am sorry for your loss. Alexis' story is truly heart breking. My second child has been diagnosed with MCAD. She is almost 8 months now. Just 3 weeks ago she presented with a stomach flu. Luckily due to the diagnosis, she was admitted by her pediatrician and pumped full of fluids for 24 hours. After that, she was a happy baby again. My first child has since been tested too and does not have MCAD. Your awareness is helping the nation. Thank you.

My 3rd child and my partners 1st child is just 6 weeks old. She has been diagnosed with MCAD. She was detected through newborn screening. In the UK this screening is only on a trial basis in some areas, so we are lucky. My Dr and Health visitor knew nothing, the midwives new about the screening, but no child had a positive result. Only Great Ormond Street Hospital metabolic team knew anything. Knowing what I do now, I feel for all those families who have lost a loved one, all due to a simple test not being carried out. My daughter has been in hospital once already, I had to tell the Dr's what to do! Awareness in every country around the world is a must to save any more families heartache for losing a loved one, and I thank everyone who has posted messages, sad or happy I'm glad i'm not alone. love and wishes to all.

No words can alleviate your feeling for the lost of a child. Our granddaughter has the disorder, but fortunately it was detected at an early age. You courage in informing others about MCAD will advise many others and hopefully save many other children.
We pray for you and your Angel.
